About Myself

Image of Me. My name is Chris Barrett.

This is me. My name is Chris.

My name is Chris Barrett. I am a Vancouver, British Columbia based web developer and programmer currently completing studies at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. My primary focus has been on Java. I’m also familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. If your organization needs a proven communicator, with a passion for technology and programming, please read on.

Oracle Certified Associate Java ProgrammerI began my career in IT retail sales, where I became the youngest team leader in Western Canada for a major Canadian technology retailer. My sales experiences lead me into the investment industry, where I learned relationship management and teamwork with Vancouver’s top investment brokers while helping manage over $300,000,000.

Within these roles, my passion for technology never wavered. I worked closely with system designers and database administrators on project teams to help modernize the front-line tools used by RBC Dominion Securities. Later, I helped develop solutions to streamline annual fee billing at Credential Financial, while championing new social media initiatives. No matter the opportunity, I was never far from the world of Information Technology.

QRCode for vCardIn 2010, my interest in the financial markets began to fade. I needed a new challenge. My passion took me to WordPress, where I self-taught myself HTML and CSS, and I began a consulting business developing websites – websites such as that of Dr. Suzanne Gelb, featured on KHON-TV Hawaii. I also became the chief experience officer and support lead for Canada’s largest WordPress developer, providing support and solutions for over 37,000 clients.

In 2013, I left my career in finance to attend BCIT part-time and set myself a new goal of career in IT. I am in the top percentile of part-time students, and have become fluent in Java, PHP, C++, XML, HTML, and CSS. I give back to the industry through volunteering in the WordPress forums and in the Java forums of CodeRanch.

Let my passion help your organization succeed.
